Welcoming Message from the Editor

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the commencement of the China Focus of the Centre for Strategic Research and Analysis (CESRAN).

I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to the Chairman Mr. Ozgur Tufekci, the members of the Editorial Board, and all the other contributors of CESRAN. It is only with their help and support that China Focus can become one of the most extensive academic platforms for scholars all over the world who are interested in every aspect of China, Hong Kong and its neighbourhood. 

I would like to take this opportunity to highlight the reason for initiating this new section of CESRAN, and the reason I believe China Focus can do in the future. No matter how positive and negative our views on China are, the rise of the 21^st-century-China is indeed one of the most significant events in the course of history. However, to many of the foreigners, China remains a mysterious country. As a political analyst Mark Leonard rightly asks, “What does China think?” There are no obvious answers to it and situations have become complicated and contentious when things are open to interpretations. Yet, China Focus aims at providing a virtual round-table for everybody in the world to exchange their invaluable insights on this meaningful question. China Focus therefore invites high-quality academic essays, op-ed articles, book reviews, interviews and videos in the areas of politics, economics, culture, environment and philosophy. It is a comprehensive forum that can attract the widest spectrum of audience who are interested in issues concerning China? Through China Focus, we are all adjusting our cultural lenses. 

Confucius once said, “When I walk along with two others, they may serve me as my teachers.” As the editor of China Focus, I sincerely hope that teachers from all over the globe will find this website useful in understanding and communicating with China.
